Mother's Day Style

Happy Friday Friends!

I'm still undecided on what I will be wearing for Mother's Day Brunch this Sunday. Here are two ideas I'm loving - both are blue based (such a rich vibrant color) but with totally different vibes.

Sassy: Dress / Shoes / Purse / Earrings

Boho Chic: Dress / Belt / Sandal / Purse / Earrings

Both are stylish yet comfortable. I think your outfit for the day will depend on what you have planned.

Being the mother of a six month old, who is going out to a special brunch, I'm planning to wear something chic yet washable :-)

What are your Mother's Day Weekend plans?

Lately In Photos: Late Spring

Last week was a roller coaster.

Mr. H. and I had a date night - dinner and a concert. This was big time for us! It was the first night a sitter put Baby H. to bed and we were out for more than a few hours - wooo hooo! Band of Horses was a great show and it felt awesome to have adult time.

Mr. H. went away for the weekend so it was just me and baby. We've discovered grocery shopping is a lot easier with the Baby K'Tan Wrap, walks on a sunny day make everyone happy, and a spa day with the girls followed by a lunch of wine is a must!

Mother's Day Gifts 2013

I am over-the-moon about celebrating my first Mother's Day with Baby H. a week from Sunday.

A lovely reader asked me to post gift ideas. Here are my top 10:

mothersdaygifts

1. A Bath Robe. This would be my top want. I have a heavy winter robe but nothing light weight. It would have come in handy this morning when Baby H. was having a comeapart and I barely had time to dry off :-)

2. This Crown Necklace is dainty and a great layering piece. My favorite part is the message - YOU RULE! As a mom you work hard and everyone should know and appreciate you and how much you rule!

3. A neutral leather handbag is a classic piece and a luxorious gift. Something mom can cherish for years to come.

4. By now y'all know I love Toms. They are the perfect mom shoe - comfy and stylish.

5. I'm drooling over this gold and tortoise Michael Kors Watch. Personalize it with a message or date engraged inside.

6. Get the party planner or crafty mom something she'll use. These Mason Jar Sippers are adorable.

7. Kate Spade's "You Are Here" Blanket can take mom anywhere - the beach, park, a concert. It's cute and useful.

8. Baby H. will be eating solids soon and I've heard The Vitamix is the best blender out there. It's a wonderful gift for new moms, chef moms, or healthy moms.

9. I'm officially obessed with Stich Fix - the service that mails five amazing clothing/accessory pieces right to your door. This is the perfect gift for yourself or any mom you know. Join here

10. Petunia Pickle Bottom has the most whimsical prints. I ordered myself this train case and it's a great size and material. Get it for mom and fill it with sample sizes of her favorite products or a gift card to the spa.

Concert Chic

With the beautiful weather comes outdoor concerts. What do you wear when you want to be comfortable and chic? The key is breathable materials, shoes you can walk in, a cross body bag, and accessories that will take you from day to night.

Here are two options - one sophisticated, the other bohemian.

concert outfit

Sophisticated: Dress / Sandals / Scarf / Bracelet and Bracelet / Purse

I would wear both options. I love a long dress for sitting in lawn seats and the scarf could be wrapped around your shoulders when the sun goes down. A long-sleeved tunic will keep the sun off you during a day-time show and a hat is trendy and useful.

Are you going to any concerts soon? Leave a comment.

Bohemian: Tunic / Shorts / Wedges / Purse / Hat / Earrings

Fashion Forward - The One-Piece

I've been wanting a one-piece bathing suit since having Baby H. I had to administer injections in my stomach the entire pregnancy and almost six months later still have some bruising. That combined with a few (not too bad) strech marks and a bit of baby weight makes me yearn for a cute suit.

But finding one that's fashionable is super hard. I don't want to look like a mom who doesn't try. It shouldn't be that hard to be chic while not showing your tummy!

After searching for months, today I purchased this one from J.Crew.

It's now sold out but I loved the 60s mod pattern (which I hope will be slimming) and the strapless neckline is young and flirty. The best part? It was on super sale and I got an additional 25% off. (LOVE SALES!)

Here are some other suite one-pieces if you're in the market. (links below)

Splurge vs Steal: Lobster Shirt

A lobster motiff is the perfect fashion statement for Memorial Day. Yes, we have over a month until BBQs and long weekends but it's never too early to outfit plan.

The $355 Tibi Sweater is just too much for me to pay for this type of look but if it's in your budget more power to you. I like the black and gray Tibi Version for Fall. Before I new the prices the red/white/blue stripe version (from ASOS) really caught my eye. It screams weekend fun and summer days. It would pair beautifully with denim cutoffs. Plus it's the best deal at $50.
